WISTA Nigeria, Ezeoke To Sponsor BEGMASA Cash Prizes At 2024 AMSAY Conference

Foremost women group in Nigerian maritime sector, the Women’s International Shipping And Trading Association (WISTA Nigeria) has offered to sponsor a Hundred Thousand Naira (#100,000) Cash Prize for the winner of Best Graduating Female Maritime Student in Nigeria at the forth-coming 8th Annual Maritime Students And Youth Conference (AMSAY) scheduled for May 27 this year.

This is even as the current President of WISTA Nigeria, Mrs Eunice Ezeoke has equally offered to personally sponsor a Fifty Thousand Naira (#50,000) Cash Prize to the Winner of Best Graduating Student in Maritime Transportation and Business Studies at the occasion of 2024 AMSAY Conference.

Communicating the decision of the Management of WISTA Nigeria to sponsor the Best Graduating Maritime Students Awards (BEGMASA) Cash Prize to the convener of the AMSAY Conference, Mr Sylvanus Obasi, the President of WISTA Nigeria, Mrs Eunice Ezeoke stated that WISTA Nigeria is glad to associate with the AMSAY Conference and it’s BEGMASA initiative which is aimed at stimulating and encouraging academic excellence amongst Nigerian maritime students.

She maintained that going forward, the association would like to have the BEGMASA for Best Female Maritime Student in Nigeria to be instituted in the name and honour of WISTA Nigeria as the organization would hence forth present a cash prize of #100,000 to the winner each year during the annual AMSAY Conference.

Responding, Mr Obasi thanked WISTA Nigeria and Mrs Ezeoke for their laudable supports and for identifying with the brand. He reiterated the commitment of Platforms Communications in championing youth advocacy, youth empowerment and in contributing its quota towards the succession plan needs of the Nigerian maritime industry.

Speaking further, the foremost maritime journalist called on other well-meaning maritime stakeholders to key into the BEGMASA initiative by sponsoring the few remaining slots out of a total 12 ahead of the May 27 2024 AMSAY Conference.

Recall that after the maiden edition of AMSAY Conference in 2016 also known as “A Day With Nigerian Maritime Students”, by 2017, Platforms Communications birthed the BEGMASA initiative and integrated it into the AMSAY Conference and since then, over 40 maritime students have been honoured and benefited from the initiative; even as some have published their testimonials commending the impact of the program in their academic success, self confidence and determination in their maritime career pursuit.
