In recent times, the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) has been grappling with incessant boat mishaps, resulting to countless loss of lives on Nigeria inland waterways.
Investigation reveals that the use of unstable boats which are built by artisans without the application of modern principles of boat design and which are in most cases overloaded with passengers and goods accounts for greater percentage of these fatal boat accidents; in addition to non compliance to safety standards by boat owners and operators.

To forestall this ugly trend on Nigerian inland waterways, Flotilla Academy of Marine Technology is organising a professsional training on Adopting New Boat Designs that meet Safety Standards and ensure Regulatory Compliance.
According to the Technical Director of the Academy, Engr Adakole Ejegbudu, “All training are conducted and certified by Flotilla Academy of Marine Technology in partnership with Practical Boat Design and Seamanship International (PBDSI) and endorsed by Transportation Growth Initiative (TGI)”.

He also revealed that the 5 days training is scheduled to hold between May 19 – 23, 2025, urging interested participants to register and be part of the insightful training.
Prospective candidates who wish to know more about the school are advised to visit the academy’s website: www.flotillaacademy.com; while those seeking to make further inquiries on how to register and participate in the training can call: 07056356240, 07063243127 or 08127239105.
