The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun I Area Command has announced the seizure of 1,315 explosives and thousands of ammunition rounds in 2025, highlighting a intensified border crackdown.
Acting Customs Area Controller, OO Afeni disclosed this at a press conference in Idiroko on Thursday, while handing over intercepted narcotics and weapons to the NDLEA and the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms.

PLATFORM REPORTERS also gathered that the command reported a 47% increase in revenue generation for 2025, collecting over N454.6 million. Its anti-smuggling operations led to 487 seizures with a Duty Paid Value exceeding N4.1 billion.

Major items intercepted included 22,725 bags of foreign rice, 13,332 parcels of cannabis sativa, and significant quantities of smuggled petroleum motor spirit, arms, and hard drugs like heroin and crystal meth.

Already in 2026, the command has made further seizures, including over 1,000 bags of rice and 3,738 parcels of cannabis.

In his speech while addressing newsmen, the Area Controller condemned repeated attacks on officers by smugglers and warned that such intimidation would not deter the command from its duties. He called on community leaders to educate youths on the dangers of smuggling narcotics and weapons.

The seized cannabis sativa and arms were formally handed over to the NDLEA and the NCCSALW respectively, underscoring ongoing inter-agency collaboration to enhance border security and public safety.
