This commitment was made by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the company, Alhaji Aminu Umar, during a recent post-event appreciation visit by the management of Platforms Communications, organisers of the AMSAY Conference to the company’s headquarters in Apapa, Lagos.
The appreciation visit formed part of series of engagements by Platforms Communications with organisations and individuals who contributed to the successful hosting of the 2026 AMSAY Conference.
According to the organisers, the visit was an opportunity to express appreciation to Sea Transport Services Nigeria Ltd for its partnership and continued support for the program initiatives aimed at developing the nation’s maritime workforce.
Speaking during the meeting, Alhaji Umar reaffirmed his company’s commitment to supporting programmes that empower young Nigerians and strengthen capacity in the maritime industry.
He announced that Sea Transport Services Nigeria Ltd would henceforth provide sea-time opportunities for the best graduating maritime students who emerge from the AMSAY Conference.
The initiative is expected to ease one of the biggest challenges confronting Nigerian maritime graduates, many of whom struggle to obtain the mandatory sea-time experience required for professional certification.
Responding, the Managing Director of Platforms Communications, Mr. Sylvanus Obasi, described the commitment as a major milestone in the organisation’s drive to create sustainable career pathways for maritime cadets and young seafarers.
“We are deeply encouraged by this commitment from Alhaji Aminu Umar and Sea Transport Services Nigeria Ltd. It demonstrates genuine confidence in the vision of the AMSAY Conference and our commitment to developing the next generation of maritime professionals,” Obasi said.
He added: “Sea-time opportunities remain one of the greatest challenges facing Nigerian maritime cadets. This pledge will not only reward academic excellence but also provide deserving students with the practical experience they need to launch successful careers in the global maritime industry.”
Obasi noted that Platforms Communications would continue to build strategic partnerships with stakeholders committed to strengthening maritime education, skills development and youth empowerment.
He expressed optimism that the gesture by Sea Transport Services Nigeria Ltd would encourage more indigenous shipping companies and maritime operators to make commitment in support of the youth-centric program initiative
According to him, sustained collaboration between private sector organisations with shared vision is essential to producing globally competitive Nigerian seafarers.
Obasi reaffirmed the commitment of Platforms Communications to advancing programmes that bridge the gap between classroom learning and practical industry experience, while thanking Sea Transport Services Nigeria Ltd for its confidence in the AMSAY Conference mission of positively impacting the future of young maritime professionals.
