In a second leg of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for year 2024, the Nigerian chapter of Women’s International Shipping And Trading Association (WISTA Nigeria) has donated another fishing boat to the women of Sagbokoji, a fishing community in Amuwo-Odofin LGA of Lagos state.
Recall that earlier last week, WISTA Nigeria made a similar donation to the women of Osoroko community in Ibeju-Lekki, Eti-Osa LGA of Lagos state.
Addressing Sagbokoji women before handing over the boat to them, President of WISTA Nigeria, Mrs Eunice Ezeoke took time to explain the aims and objective of WISTA Nigeria to the community which according her include: giving maritime women a voice, showcasing the needs of women and empowering women in maritime sector.
Speaking further, she appreciated the Sagbokoji women for being hardworking and supportive of their families through their fishing businesses.
“We know you are hard working, supportive and adding value to the economy. We are here to tell you weldone and to let you know we know you are here.

“We know your plights, we know how you are struggling to support your families and we are here to support your fishing business by donating this fishing boat to you people so that you can do more in contributing your quota to Nigerian economy”.
She also urged the community to ensure sustainable use of the ocean resources by keeping the marine environment clean and avoid acts harmful to the marine life.

Also speaking, the representative of the Commissioner of Lagos state Ministry of Agriculture, Ms Fansiat Afolake Saka thanked WISTA Nigeria for the kind gesture.
She enjoined the women to show sincere appreciation to WISTA Nigeria by making adequate use of the fishing boat in a way benefitial to them all.

She also used the occasion to urge the women to register with Lagos state fish processors and traders association in other to get other benefits from Lagos state government.
Responding on behalf of the community, the Baale of Sagbokoji, High Chief Avime Anthony expressed gratitude to WISTA Nigeria for donating a fishing boat to their women in support of their fishing business.
