IBADAN – The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has generated N65,661,343,026.94 between January and August 2026, representing 13.88 per cent increase over N57,656,161,990.24 collected in same period of 2025.
Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Wale Moses Adewole, disclosed this Thursday, September 17, 2026, during press briefing at Command Operational Headquarters, Ibadan.
According to him, performance reflects sustained commitment to effective revenue collection, trade facilitation, stakeholder engagement and compliance improvement strategies.
On anti-smuggling operations, Adewole said Command recorded seizures in August 2026 with Duty Paid Value of N4,106,951,689.00.
Seized items include 2,012 bags of foreign parboiled rice (50kg), 550 bags (25kg), 2,440 wraps of Cannabis Sativa, 1,150 used tyres, 101 used compressors, 48 packs of Tramadol 225mg, 105 bales and 28 sacks of used clothing, 18 sacks of used shoes, 450 kegs of PMS (5,000 litres), 33 bottles of foreign vegetable oil, 30 bags of foreign sugar (60kg), 573 Police Force crests, 92 yards Police camouflage fabric, 17 Tokunbo vehicles, 10 means of conveyance, 10 containers of Corrosive 8 Mercury, 1 jack knife, 1 pistol, 6 pistol magazines, 1 pump action magazine and 60 detonating cords.
The Controller raised concern over interception of Police crest and camouflage uniforms, noting misuse by criminal elements to impersonate law enforcement could worsen insecurity.
He said interception of Corrosive 8 Mercury, a hazardous chemical, prevented risks of fire, explosion, injury and loss of lives.
Adewole commended officers for vigilance and intelligence-driven operations, assuring Command will continue to discharge mandate professionally in line with Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023.
